FR. DAVID’S POST OF 2021-06-18 — In my sermon this past Sunday, I invited members of SsAM to consider participating in one of the small listening groups that will begin September 4, 2021. This week I wanted to share more information so that you will have a better idea about what I have in mind. If, after you read what I have in mind, please email me your interest and which group works best for you.
The Goal of a Small Group?
The goal of this type of small group is to build community within a small group in order that members would feel more confident in their ability to share with other people their walk with Jesus Christ. Small groups have an advantage to allow a small group of seekers to share their personal faith story, learn and practice types of prayer that might be new for them, and reflect upon what it means to be a follower of Jesus in today’s world.
How many participants to be in each group?
Ideally I would like to see eight to ten folks in each of the three five-week groups. If you are interested in participating in one of these groups please let me know your first, second and third choice. Later in this reflection you will see the dates for each of the groups.
How many weeks will the groups meet and what is the time frame for each setting?
Each group will meet for five successive weeks and will meet for no more than two hours each session. I propose that these groups will meet on Saturday mornings from 10:00AM to 12:00PM.
• The first group will meet for the first time on September 4 and will conclude on October 2.
• The Second group will meet October 9 and end November 6.
• The Third group will meet November 13 and 20 and December 4 to 18.
Can I participate in more than one group?
My hope is that each group will consist of 8-10 new people. My hope is that as community is built among the small group members, that the first small group that ends in October will continue to meet after their last session on their own.
Fr. David, what is your hope to achieve with these small groups?
My hope is that these three groups will multiply to future groups especially after I leave SsAM at the end of the year.
I hope you will reach out to me to participate in one of these groups. I look forward to walking with you on this journey.
