SsAM Awarded Two College Scholarships in 2023
Two young people from SsAM are enrolled in college for the 2023-2024 school year, thanks in part to the Canon Lloyd Casson scholarships. These are funded by the church’s Apostle’s In Ministry Fund.
The Community Advocacy Committee awarded the scholarships to Gianna Hernandez-Smith (daughter of Michelle Smith) who will be attending Muhlenberg College as a sophomore to continue her Pre-Med studies. In addition, Caiden Smith (son of Patty Greene and Colin Smith) will be a freshman at Penn State Brandywine where he will major in civil engineering and play collegiate soccer.
The scholarship fund is named for Rector Emeritus Canon Lloyd Casson.
SsAM recently received a special thank you from Cameron Dixon who received the scholarship for several years while he was working towards his PhD in physical therapy, which he has now completed.
“I truly cannot understate how helpful the scholarship has been! Each year, it has been such a blessing to know that I had support for the supplies I needed to succeed. I know without it, it would have been much more difficult to achieve all of this.”
Scholarships will again be available for the 2024-2025 school year.
Every year, the Community Advocacy Committee sponsors scholarships for students entering college and for those who are already enrolled. Thanks to the generosity of those who contribute to our Apostles In Ministry (AIM) Fund, our church is able to award scholarships.
The Canon Lloyd Casson Scholarship Program is open to members of our parish. The scholarship amount was $1,000 each for the 2023-2024 school year, which students used for books and supplies. Every year, high school graduates in June are encouraged to apply, as are previous recipients and those already in college. Students interested in applying for the scholarship should contact Alice Smith at 376-0200 for a copy of the application form and guidelines. The form is also available at the church office. Or simply click here to see the 2023 application form and guidelines in a PDF document. The next application deadline is July 15, 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year.
