Governor John Carney on November 5, 2020, announced nominations to several key administration posts. The Delaware Senate is expected to consider these nominations when the General Assembly returns to regular session in January, 2021.
Our church is pleased to see the name of one of its long-time members on the governor’s list.
The press release says: “Saundra Ross Johnson will be appointed by Governor Carney to serve as Director of Statewide Equity Initiatives. The newly created, appointed position will work across executive branch agencies and serve as a senior advisor to Governor Carney on issues of equity, diversity and inclusion. In 2017, Johnson became the first Secretary of the Delaware Department of Human Resources (DHR), which was created to manage issues important to state employees. Johnson led the development of a statewide anti-discrimination policy at DHR, and previously served as Director of the Delaware State Housing Authority (DSHA).”
Back in 1996, Sandy was one of many who led the two Episcopal churches — St. Andrew’s and St. Matthew’s — to consolidate into a single church. She was also one of the leaders in the successful effort in 2010 to renovate the 5-story Shipley Lofts building at 701 N. Shipley Street, at the other end of the block from SsAM.
Congratulations, Sandy!
