Meet The Need / Community Advocacy Update for the End of 2023
During November and December of 2023, the members of SsAM showed their generosity to those city residents disadvantaged by homelessness and poverty. The Community Advocacy Committee is constantly astonished by the grace demonstrated in your giving.
In November 2023, members of SsAM donated 46 sets of thermal underwear plus regular underwear for Friendship House clients and the Clothing Bank. SsAM members generously gave to the Angel Tree project in December. This year we were able to provide $75 gift cards to the 30 women participating in Friendship House’s transitional housing program. In addition, several members of the parish purchased gifts for 18 children of these women. Shawn Helmick, coordinator of the transitional housing program has been invited to speak with us on January 21 about this program. Chuck Bean delivered four boxes of Christmas decorations and ornaments to the transitional houses to brighten their surroundings. The giving spirit of SsAM helped to uplift the last few months in 2023, and we look forward to the future. Thank you so much for everyone’s participation.
Meet The Need
In order to better serve our community, the Episcopal Church Women (ECW) of SsAM and the church’s Community Advocacy Committee joined together in September, 2022 to promote a new ministry called “Meet the Need”.
Under this ministry we coordinate in-kind contributions at SsAM.
Please support both groups, whose members work very hard to sponsor in-kind collections. These collections address the rising cost of living and lessen its impact on those in need of food and other life necessities. And sometimes it just makes life better, as when we ask for long underwear for the homeless in winter (Undee Sunday) or Christmas gifts for the children of those in prison (Angel Tree).
A New Logo
Look for our newly designed logo in every Friday eBlast, in Sunday’s printed Weekly Vision, and on this website. Those announcements will tell you what need is being identified and how long the collection will last. Monetary donations will continue to be accepted as well.
