“Lovely” is not often a word used to describe music performed on the trumpet, but that’s our word for Catherine Soukup’s playing at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, July 24, 2016. Other words we could use are “inspiring” and “stirring”.
Katie played with organist David Christopher throughout the service and, when it came time for the first Bible passage, she was up on the lectern reading. She’s been reading in our church since she was 12 years old and has been playing and singing here nearly as long, back when it was St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, before its consolidation with St. Matthew’s. Canon Casson baptized her here. She pursued a music major in college and now teaches choir at Kennett High School in Pennsylvania. Well done, Katie!
