One sign of the many ministries of our church is the key ring carried by Charles, our sexton. Some 35 keys adorn that ring, giving him access to the rooms and cabinets of our large, three-story complex, everything from Crypt Hall to towel dispensers. Gloria Hampton
“Why isn’t peace news? Where are the cameras when peace breaks out? Where are the reporters when peace is sustained?” So asked Gloria Hampton on Sunday, October 30, when members of the 10:30 a.m. congregation were asked to talk about making peace and being peaceful often in spite of our anxieties and temperaments, our situations READ MORE »

D-L Casson
Diane-Louise (D-L) Casson let Danny Schweers photograph her in early October, 2016. D-L is in the church office every weekday in her role as executive assistant to the rector. Barbara Henry and Danny Schweers
After volunteering to be a Sunday morning lay reader and an acolyte at our church, it was easy for Barbara Henry to agree to serve as a lay eucharistic minister as well. Some Sundays she does all three tasks. Her husband, Danny Schweers, has maintained this website since 2004, and has worked with the bishop’s READ MORE »

Here is a recording of the homily by READ MORE »
Bob Richmond, Organ Committee
Here is a photo of Bob Richmond standing on the roof. In the background, circled in red, is the new loft for the organ pipes. When Bob was on the Organ Renovation Committee, the plan was to put most of the new pipes in the back of the church, above the balcony. The better, more READ MORE »
Roberts Family
The Roberts Family — Les, Jacqueline, and Les, Jr. — are worshiping together regularly for the first time. Until recently, they were serving at different churches. Jacqueline had been working at Bethel A.M.E. Church since 1954, most recently as the director of church music. At the same time, Les served as an acolyte in the READ MORE »
Sandy Holt, Usher
On Sunday morning, August 14, 2016, I took this photo of Sandy Holt with morning light coming from behind her left shoulder. Sandy is an usher at SsAM’s 10:30 a.m. Sunday worship service. Someone asked her to do this task for a few weeks. That was years ago! Ushers do not serve every Sunday, but READ MORE »
Katie Soukup, Trumpet
“Lovely” is not often a word used to describe music performed on the trumpet, but that’s our word for Catherine Soukup’s playing at the 10:30 a.m. service on Sunday, July 24, 2016. Other words we could use are “inspiring” and “stirring”. Katie played with organist David Christopher throughout the service and, when it came time READ MORE »
