In Retirement

A reflection by Danny Schweers for August 6, 2023. I am sharp witted in the morning and slow thinking in the afternoon. Right now, as I write this reflection in the evening, my mind can only plod along, writing down a word and wondering what the next one will be. There are times when my READ MORE »

Taking Care of Yourself

A reflection for July 25, 2023 by Mary Lou Edgar. “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment and the second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself.” —Mark 12: 29-31 Each of us has been READ MORE »

The Doors of Life

The Doors of Life, a reflection by Christina Brennan Lee

When one door closes, another opens: but we often look so long and so regretfully upon the closed door that we do not see the one which has opened for us. ~ Alexander Graham Bell*  A reflection by Christina Brennan Lee for July 9, 2023. The doors of life are as many and as variable READ MORE »

How To Pray Without Ceasing

A reflection by Danny Nelson Schweers for July 16, 2023. Saint Paul tells us to “pray without ceasing”. To me that only makes sense if somehow prayer is as much a part of our lives as breathing. I have a sketchy idea of how it might work. Perhaps it is something like your idea. Last READ MORE »

Changing the Pray-er

The function of prayer is not to influence God, but rather to change the nature of the one who prays. ― Søren Kierkegaard* A reflection by Christina Brennan Lee for July 9, 2023. Dear God, Almighty, Everlasting, and Eternal! Of course I want to influence You. Of course I want You to do what I READ MORE »

The Road Not Taken

A reflection by Mary Lou Edgar for July 2, 2023. My favorite poet is Robert Frost. I learned about him in high school when I was able to hear him read some of his poems. I was mesmerized. I know many of his poems may seem simplistic. They still rhyme – what’s up with that? READ MORE »

Unlikely People, a reflection by Danny Schweers on a sermon by the Rev. Canon Kirkpatrick

A reflection by Danny Schweers for June 23, 2023. What was it that the Rev. Canon Kirkpatrick said in her sermon last Sunday that was so inspiring? Here is my perhaps faulty transcription of what she said near the end of her sermon. “Jesus reminds his disciples to ask God for help, specifically in sending READ MORE »

A reflection by Christina Brennan Lee, June 16, 2023. Nelson Mandela said: “I am fundamentally an optimist. Whether that comes from nature or nurture, I cannot say.
