Youth & Young Families = YYF

The Youth & Young Families (YYF) group is a growing whirlwind of young parishioners. The group ranges in age from 10 years old to 21 years old. The YYF adult leaders for 2017 are Dr. Phyllise Wilkins-Church and Mrs. Tabe Mase.

YYF members are encouraged to choose an area of responsibility at SsAM: reader, greeter, acolyte, usher, etc. Most members have already started offering their services.

Bible Study

SsAM’s middle school and high school youth study the Bible beginning at 10:30 a.m. in the Teen Suite (second floor) on Sundays, late August thru June. The Bible we study is The Voice, which we provide. We join the worship service in the sanctuary at the time of the Peace.

YYF Meetings

YYF teens and parents meet every 2nd Sunday in the month, noon to 1:00pm. Meetings are held in the Teen Suite (second floor) from late August to June. Parents play a pivotal role in the program preparation.

End of Year Activity

Before leaving  in June for the summer, an activity is planned, which may include a local excursion, Camp Arrowhead prep, summer Teen Conferences,  a fun activity and/or a mission trip.

Canon Casson Scholarship Program

Every year, the Community Advocacy Committee sponsors scholarships for students entering college and those who are already enrolled. The scholarship program is open to members who attend SsAM.

Camp Arrowhead

Sponsored by the Diocese of Delaware, this is a camp for youth entering third through eleventh grades. The camp experience enriches young people’s relationships with one another, nature and God. Campers develop their sense of adventure and spiritual awareness as they participate in the activities, outdoor life and community of camp. Summer Project

YYF had a very successful summer project in 2016! Here is their letter of thanks to the congregation:

The Youth and Young Families Ministry of SsAM would like to take this opportunity to THANK YOU for the many generous donations to the summer food project for the Food Bank and the Lutheran Food Bank.  We also initiated a Children’s Clothes Drive.  We delivered the multiple bags of clothing collected to the Friendship House Women’s Center housed here at SsAM.

Along with the youth group at St. Barnabas in Newark, we were able to deliver 403 lbs. of food to the food banks to supplement meals for children who depend upon breakfasts and lunches provided during the school year.  During the summer, meals are provided at various day camps or other sites, and there is always a great need to provide for the children who often go without sufficient food.  Food going to the Lutheran is a year-round project.

Multiple bags of clothing for infants to teens were delivered to the Women’s Center.  The items provided clothing through the Summer Project allowed children to have the necessary clothing needed until fall.

The Youth and Young Families Ministry of SsAM and the youth group of St. Barnabas-Newark, are grateful to all the donors and contributions toward this summer project.

YYF Prayer

The YYF Youth composed this prayer during their retreat on September 6, 2014. It is be prayed at their meetings:

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, Holy Spirit and Creator God, Hear us today.
Let us hold fast to our dreams.
We pray for all who have guided us in the right direction.
Dear God, we pray that you heal us with your spiritual love.
Bless us with your light and protection.
We pray for everyone who struggles and is going through hard times.
We pray for anyone who has not yet spoken (pause).
We thank you for forgiving the people who have sinned.
As we move throughout our days, carrying us all to the future tomorrows, we offer these prayers in your name.
