Drumming Circleat the Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew & Matthew in downtown Wilmington, Delaware, led by Jonathan Whitney.Meditation, Spirituality, Community. Rehearsals usually on Wednesdays, 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., performance Sundays at 10:30 a.m. Contact us to confirm times. Judi Gregory, writing in July, 2011, says, As I see it, a drumming circle is used to build community. In addition, it builds reliance on each other as we split into parts and back together. It is meant for fun. It is inter-generational and not confined to one sex over another. It is movable. Why a church? Because of the reasons above. And at SsAM our music and liturgy allows us to experiment, within reason. If someone wants to join, they do not need to call anyone, just show up a little before 6 PM on Wed through July and then beginning mid September. The church office will have information as well. If you are under 18 you need to be accompanied by an adult and there is a permission form to complete. If you have your own drum or noise maker bring it/them. If not a drum will be provided. No experience is necessary. Bring only your enthusiasm and friends. It is rewarding for me a closet Indian. I think drumming is part of my blood, and heritage being a Scot and going to battle against the English by the beating of drums and the playing of pipes. In addition, I get to know more of SsAM's congregation because I usually sit on the opposite side of the church and never get to share Peace with them. And, the young men I never see. There is a gentleman from outside the congregation who I would never have met living in Bear and working at the Bishop's office. |
