Dear Friends,

I was really looking forward to seeing and meeting you tomorrow morning, but the weather is not cooperating. Reluctantly, we had to cancel my first Sunday, but it is important to be safe as well. The state of emergency in Wilmington may not end until Sunday morning and so it is better to be cautious. We will celebrate soon. Though I am disappointed that the weather has forced us to rethink Sunday, I think it very appropriate that my first Sunday be Carnival Sunday next week, Sunday, February 14.

This is an exciting time for all of us and a snow storm will not dampen that energy. We have plenty of time to pray, celebrate and serve our Lord with our hearts, minds and hands and feet. On Ash Wednesday, February 17, we begin the season of Lent. Lent is my favorite season of the Church year. I see Lent as a time for us to explore and renew our relationship with God and with each other.

Beginning Sunday, February 21, I will lead the adult education class on Sunday morning at 9:15 a.m. in the Auditorium. I wish to use this time to hear your hopes and dreams for SsAM, and to offer some material that I hope will assist us begin to live into these hopes and dreams for the future. Lent is also a time to renew a life of prayer and service, and I wish to invite folks who are interested to covenant with one another and meet once a week to explore a life of prayer. Details will follow in the Weekly Vision and on this website's Adult Education page.

Thank you for your warm welcome. I will say more next week, but I am so glad to be among you as your priest, rector, and friend.

The lessons for this Sunday have to do with call. From Isaiah’s encounter with the Holy in the temple, to Paul’s movement from persecuting the followers of Jesus to becoming a defender of the faith, to the humility of Peter in the presence of Jesus’ power, your call to me has humbled me and I am honored to be with you on this part of your journey. The future is bright and we will walk together with God.

Emily and I thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that you have done to prepare for our arrival. From the welcome sign made by the Sunday school to the goodies that helped sustain our first days here, your love and generosity have been wonderful. So be safe and I will see you next Sunday. By all means please stop by to see me during the week at SsAM.

Peace,
The Rev. David T. Andrews Jr., Rector
