Connecting in This Time of Separation

FR. DAVID’S BLOG OF 5/8/2020 —

How are we connecting to you?

  • Daily Morning Prayer on Facebook Live every morning of the week at 7:00AM.
  • Pre-recorded Sunday worship that can be watched on Facebook and You Tube.
  • Calls to all of you by me and folks involved with pastoral care.
  • Weekly E Blast articles that provide updates about what is happening during this time.
  • Click here to see the “Worship With Us Via Video” page on this website.

These are just a few of the ways we can stay connected, but there is more we can do. In an effort to increase our ability to stay connected with one another I invite you to join me on ZOOM.us over the next couple of weeks so we can see one another and take time to check in with each other. I think this will do a lot to help each one of us with the emotional roller coaster than many of us feel we are on at the moment.

Virtual Coffee Hour on Sunday, May 10

The first is an attempt to have a virtual coffee hour on Sunday morning. Since we have pre-recorded the Sunday Liturgy, we can plan to meet at 11:00 on ZOOM. The first attempt at this will be May 10th which is Mother’s Day. Bring a cup of coffee and join us. The invitation for this call is:

Virtual Lunch with the Rector on Wednesday, May 13

A second way is to continue what I am calling, ZOOM Lunch with the Rector. This will happen on Wednesday, May 13th from 12 to 1:00. Bring your lunch and let’s have a chance to share how we are doing at this time. The invitation is here:

Future Facebook Live Updates

A third way is a weekly Facebook Live update from me to share some thoughts about a where we are. Click here to see us on Facebook Live, including a video archive of past broadcasts.

Virtual Town Hall Meetings

A fourth way is to have a ZOOM town hall meeting where I and others will share with you about what is happening at SsAM. The first one will be scheduled later in May.

We will also look into how we connect with parishioners who do not have access to a computer or tablet and share with them our online worship services. This is still under investigation as to how to proceed with this way to connect.

Phone Calls and U.S. Mail

Along with all these ways to connect, they do not replace the old school way of phone. If you can, call someone you miss seeing and let them know they are in your prayers. Request the updated directory from dlcasson@ssam.org. Electronic copies will be sent out immediately; paper copies will be mailed on Fridays, upon request.

Together we will get through this and one day see each other again physically on Sunday morning.

Peace,
Fr. David

Prayer for People Critically Ill or Facing Great Uncertainty

God of the present moment,
God who in Jesus stills the storm
and soothes the frantic heart;
bring hope and courage to all
who wait or work in uncertainty.
Bring hope that you will make them the equal
of whatever lies ahead.
Bring them courage to endure what cannot be avoided,
for your will is health and wholeness;
you are God, and we need you.
