During February and March, our new rector, the Rev. David Andrews, will lead the adult education class. "I wish to use this time to hear your hopes and dreams for SsAM, and to offer some material that I hope will assist us begin to live into these hopes and dreams for the future. Lent is also a time to renew a life of prayer and service, and I wish to invite folks who are interested to covenant with one another and meet once a week to explore a life of prayer."

  • February 28: Developing a Rule of Life for the season of Lent and beyond. After the great response last week Fr. David continues this morning by reviewing the core aspects of the rule of St. Benedict. The Rule of Benedict, though established in the 5th Century, speaks to Christians in the 21st century. This morning we will look at Conversion of Life, Obedience and Stability. Fr. David would also like to gather of group of parishioner who might be interested in saying the Daily Office either at home or at Church. The Book of Common Prayer has forms for morning, noonday, evening prayers as well as compline which is a brief office said before going to bed. Descriptions of the Daily Office may be found on the internet at www.stclare.org and www.dailyoffice.org. Fr. David will also provide a form to use that allows for some flexibility.   • March 21: The Renewal-Apostolate Model: A way to connect an active life outside in the world with the power of Liturgy and Music on Sunday morning.
  • March 28: A Contemporary Way of the Cross using images from the Holy Land.

On-Line Lenten Retreat

David Andrews recommends "Life-Giving Forgiveness," sponsored by Creative Spirituality.

LIFE-GIVING FORGIVENESS is another in Creative Spirituality’s Healing, Wholeness and Holiness series of Lenten Retreats. This online retreat will focus on the art of forgiveness and how it heals and enriches our relationship to God, self, and others. Topics such as brokenness, the power of forgiveness for healing, the process of forgivness, forgiving self, God, and others will be examined. Throughout the Lenten season, retreatants will be presented with opportunities to experience various prayer practices and relational exercises. Retreatants will engage in daily prayer in the monastic tradition and be provided with written reflections, video and audio teachings. One-on-one spiritual direction is available. Resources used from this retreat range from the ancient wisdom of the desert Fathers and Mothers to contemporary writings on the topic.

Travel this journey from the ashes of brokenness to the glorious fullness of the resurrection with Spiritual Directors Catherine Tran and Sue Wise as they guide you through an exploration of the challenges and gifts of forgiveness. This is a wonderful opportunity for individuals to engage the season of Lent through prayer and self reflection. Folks who are interested will meet with Fr. David three times during Lent for a time of prayer and sharing.
