I was very moved by the events of this past Wednesday, January 20, 2021, when Joe Biden and Kamala Harris took the oath to be the next President and Vice-President of the United States.
Two weeks ago we were reeling from the mob that tried and failed to take over the government of the United States, egged on by the 45th President of the United States. Two weeks later we breathed a sigh of relief as a new day dawned in America.
I found myself crying on Tuesday night when Mr. Biden and Ms. Harris led a moving candlelight tribute to the over 400,000 people who have lost their lives due to the Corona virus. Finally, someone spoke truth to what many of us have felt this last year.
Wednesday I was in tears as I listened to Joe Biden call us to unify, as I listened to Amanda Gorman’s powerful poem, and as I listened to my friend, the Rev. Sylvester Beaman from Bethel AME church in Wilmington, deliver a heartfelt benediction.
A new day has dawned for the country. After four years of alternative facts and lies, we have returned to decency and empathy. What a day Wednesday was for all of us!
Another day of joy is approaching!
I hope you will join me and others for the launch of the 25th Anniversary Celebration of SsAM next Sunday, January 31, at 3:00. Please attend via Zoom video. The Zoom link was published in the “SsAM’s Services, Coffee Hour and Events” email sent out on Friday, January 22. Also, you can call or text Danny Schweers at 302 475-0998 to get that information.
Please wear the pin mailed to members recently.
We have much to celebrate and be thankful for. May God be with us this coming year.
Fr. David, OA
